This past weekend, we went to a first birthday celebration.
I wonder if it is only the people who live in Hawaii who celebrate a first birthday in a grand way. First birthday celebrations can be just as big as a wedding celebration.
This event had about 250 people in attendance!

The large screen showed Kira and her family. There was a large buffet line with a huge spread of food. And of course, we cannot have a party without the beverages.
Often times, there are many children that are invited to the first birthday parties and my friend rented the inflatable bounce units that can actually be placed
inside of a ballroom.
Pictured here is a closeup of the bounce units. Children really enjoy these and it keeps them occupied. There were face painters, a balloon artist and a magician that walked around the room as well. The next picture shows a band that was hired to provide musical entertainment for the adults.
Come to think of it, I recall hearing from someone that in Hawaiian culture, first birthdays were a great celebration because in the olden days, the high mortality rate of children kept them from reaching one year of age. Therefore, it was a big deal when a child celebrated their frist birthday!
